Statutory Sick Leave Policy

As of January 2024, employees are entitled to 5 days of Statutory Sick Pay. This is paid by the employer at 70% of your normal pay, up to a maximum of €110 a day.

Sick Leave can be taken consecutively or not consecutively. The scheme runs from January 1st to December 31st each calendar year.

To qualify for this payment, you must be working with your employer for at least 13 weeks.

You must be certified by a GP in order to qualify for this scheme.

You may be entitled to illness Benefit if your sickness surpasses the 3 days. In order to qualify for this, you must have enough PRSI contributions. You can check this via The Department of Social Protection.

 

You are entitled to sick pay if you are;

  • On probation
  • Interning
  • An Apprentice
  • An Agency Worker
